Baby, You're a Firework

i love to hate Katy Perry.

my guilty pleasure is Katy Perry's music. if you've ever seen her sing live, you know very well what i'm talking about. she can't. she's lucky she's got big boobs, a pretty face and fantastic song writers to back up her mediocre voice and tomboy sense of humour. her newest song, Firework, is another catchy tune that will undoubtedly creep it's way into your mind and stay there. but beyond the dance-like melody and auto-tuned vocals, the lyrics are pretty decent. it made me smile really big today! it's encouraging and reminds everyone of their "spark" that is waiting to ignited.

things are rolling at a snail's pace in my life and as an incredibly impatient person, this frustrates me to no end. so the line in Katy's song that says "maybe your reason why, all the doors are closed, is so you can open one, that leads you to the perfect road" means a lot to me right now. if you haven't heard the song, check it out below.

stay tuned for a vlog following my first MAC interview which is on Wednesday!!! please say a little prayer. hope everyone is enjoying fall because it will be snowy in no time!

FJ Inspirational Quote of the Day...

Perspective : "Simply put, the reason there are things you want that have not yet appeared in your life, is because you're just not used to thinking of yourself with them. Sorry, kind of wish it was more complicated. Just keep practicing."

Simple Face Tips

smile pretty.
lately, i've been asked by a few girls on how to get flawless skin without breaking the bank. let me just say this, taking good care of your skin will cost you money, but it doesn't have to be hundreds to get the results you're looking for! i have fairly sensitive skin that is extremely prone to redness and breakouts. i burn easy, scar easy and will most likely wrinkle east, however, i do what i can to prevent. here are some simple tips to help maintain flawless skin and beat breakouts if you are a sufferer.

no 1. cheaper skin care lines
low-price point
*Aveeno ( BEST for sensitive skin )
*Dove ( GOOD for sensitive skin / normal skin )

mid-price point
*NeoStrata ( BEST for anti-wrinkle, blemishes, mild-moderate acne )
*Khiels ( GREAT for anti-aging, acne )
*Clinique ( GREAT for sensitive skin, acne / pigmentation, and mens skin care )
*Aveda ( GOOD for all skin types )

high-price point
*Environ ( BEST for anti-aging, mild-severe acne, vitamin focused )
*La Prairie ( EXPENSIVE! BEST for anti-wrinkle )
*Estee Lauder (GREAT for all skin types, been around forever )

no. 2 vitamins & herbs
not all women want to be on "the pill" to prevent breakouts. although some pills like Ortho-Tricyclen do treat mild-moderate acne, you're still taking hormones which some would argue isn't necessarily a good thing. i try to take holistic roots to most problems and with that being said, here are some natural vitamins & herbs that help your body stay balanced hormonally so that you consistently have clear skin.

*Vitamin A ( acne killer, Acutane, is packed full of Vitamin A )
*Primrose ( i take this daily to prevent PMDD, it's a fatty acid that replaces the fatty acids you loose during your cycle, therefore keeping you as balanced as you can be )
*Hair, Skin & Nail Vitamin ( a vitamin mix including Vitamin B12 & Vitamin A )
*Vitamin C ( always good to take )

no. 3 a good cleanser
a good facial cleanser is extremely important! it is the first step of your face regime. here are some of my favourite cleansers . . .

*NeoStrata Oil-Free Gel Cleanser ( acne prone skin )
*Aveda Purifying Gel Cleanser ( acne prone skin, great for taking makeup off )
*Clinique Liquid Facial Soap ( all skin types )

no. 4 exfoliate
you must exfoliate once a week. at least! do it in the shower if it's easiest to remember. you don't have to go all fancy with exfoliants . . . many will do the trick. the importance is that you are stripping off any bacteria, dead skins cells & excess oil that will block your pores.

*Laura Mercier Face Polish ( my favourite )

Very Mary-Kate

i have a new hero.

her name is Elaine Carroll. she's frickin' brilliant! i discovered her via my Facebook Newsfeed thanks to an old pal from The Chz. she has her own web-series called Very Mary-Kate, the unofficial biography of Mary-Kate Olsen but really it's just her doing short episodes impersonating Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen . . . needless to say, it's hilarious. below is her most recent episode and a little recap of her series. start from the beginning! Elaine was just on Mad Men (lucky SOB) for one episode this season. i think she lives in New York or LA and i would love to be her friend. she's also part of a team of comedians called Dutch West that specializes in being completely retarded for your entertainment. their stuff makes SNL look weak. check them out if like to laugh . . .

Christina Aguilera & Hubby Split?!

my heart is breaking a little bit.

for me, this is shocking. for some, maybe not. it has apparently been confirmed that Christina Aguilera (my soulmate sister) and her husband of 5 years, Jordan Bratman have separated. they've been together since 2002 and i am so sad if this is true. her only statement about that matter is "Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains strong as ever," (via People) . . . i don't understand. i keep regularly up to date on Christina (cuz she is my soulmate sister, duhhh!) and i've seen recent pics of her and Jordy together several times . . .  a recent trip to Rome, a brand new Ferrari . . . this is completely coming out of left field.

i truly thought they would make it. and maybe they will . . . there is certainly no harm in taking time to figure things out or regroup who you are . . . and i am secretly praying they reconcile and pull it back together.  actually, i secretly pray that outcome for most couples who separate. it's sad when relationships end. is it because we're searching for something that is nearly impossible to attain?

i do believe that true love prevails. i do believe that it's possible to spend your entire life happily loving someone. i didn't at one point, i'm not going to lie. i didn't want to be naive about love so i had accepted that it was a nice notion but my heart didn't truly believe it. i do now though. for many reasons. one being how much i love my husband. we're not perfect and our relationship isn't perfect, but nothing is perfect. and i'm ok with that. what's important is that we make mistakes and learn from them so we can grow strongly together. my grandparents have been together since high school . . .  so has Phil's. they are wonderful examples that it can be done.

dearest Christina,

i hope you're okay and that you and Jordan can work it out.
